Lentils Indian style

Ingredients

  • cooking oil (colza)(3 Tsp.)
  • 1 large onion(diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic(minced)
  • ½” ginger minced
  • ½ green chilly (uncut)
  • Fresh tomatoes chopped or tomato purée
  • Small piece of jaggery
  • 1/2 tsp red chilly powder
  • 3/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala powder
  • 2 cup brown lentils(rinsed)
  • 1cup water (or use vegetable stock for vegetarian version)
  • 2 Tspchopped fresh coriander
  • salt(/pepper to taste)

Fry onions till brown, add ginger/garlic and all dry powdered spices. Add tomatoes and finally lentils. Add enough water till cooked to taste. Finally add freshly chopped coriander.
