Mindfulness-Based Programmes in Geneva, Switzerland for Stress, Life Transitions and Personal Growth

APRIL 2012 MBSR Course

Starting Monday  APRIL 16th, we will run again the 8 week MBSR Programme, designed to help people develop strategies to manage stress and anxiety associated with modern living, and to promote general well-being. The teachers for this Programme are Karl Duffy, MA Counselling &  Mindfulness Trainer and Allie Greylin Frey.

The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) was first developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre.  Since then. MBSR has been extensively studied by researchers in medicine, psychology and neuroscience and it serves as the template for numerous mindfulness-based programs targeting specific populations (eg.  teenagers), and particular health issues including stress, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, skin conditions, cancer and heart disease.

The MBSR program offered by us reflects the format developed and improved over the past thirty years by the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare & Society.

It involves eight sessions of 2.5 hours each, held weekly over eight consecutive Monday nights. The sessions involve a combination of information presentation, small and large group discussion, gentle movement exercises (suitable for all levels of activity) and carefully guided meditation instruction and practice. There is also an All Day mindfulness “retreat” held on the Saturday in week 6 of the course.

Participants are supported by the teacher to undertake around 45 minutes of simple, daily practices at home between classes, and this experiential focus forms the core of MBSR. Participants receive a practice journal and CD/ USB stick containing recordings to guide them to integrate their new skills into daily life right from the start.

You need no previous experience in meditation to register for the Course. However participants should be prepared to make a commitment to themselves to undertake the daily home practice diligently, as best they can. The teachers are available by phone or email to answer any questions or offer support throughout the program.

If anyone is interested in further details  it is best to send an email and a one-to-one phone call or Orientation meeting will be set up to provide further information and allow for any last questions.
